Application of Centrifugal Pumps in Coal Mining

2025-08-21 14:00

Centrifugal pumps are indispensable critical equipment in coal mining. Their core function is to provide power for the entire mine's drainage, water supply, and firefighting systems, ensuring safe production and the safety of personnel.

Application of Centrifugal Pumps in Coal Mining

The underground coal mine environment is harsh, with complex hydrogeological conditions and widespread water inflow issues. If underground water inflow is not removed promptly and effectively, it can lead to disastrous accidents such as mine flooding, equipment damage, and even gas explosions. Therefore, the drainage system is known as the "lifeline" of the mine, and the centrifugal pump is the "heart" of this lifeline.

Main Application Scenarios:

1.Main Drainage System:

1)Location: Usually installed in the main drainage pump house or central pump house near the shaft bottom.

2)Function: This is the core of the mine drainage system. It is responsible for collecting water inflow from all parts of the mine into a main sump and then pumping it to the surface in one go. These pumps are high-power, high-head, and high-flow, often multistage centrifugal pumps to meet the head requirements for shafts hundreds of meters or even kilometers deep.

3)Characteristics: The system is large-scale, typically equipped with duty pumps, standby pumps, and maintenance pumps to ensure 24/7 uninterrupted operation.

2.Auxiliary Drainage System (Section Drainage):

1)Location: Set up at temporary water collection points such as mining faces and downhill sections.

2)Function: To drain water from the working face or local area to the main sump or an intermediate sump first, reducing the burden on the main pump house. These pumps may need to be moved frequently, so wear-resistant and portable centrifugal pumps are also used.

3.Emergency Drainage and Disaster Prevention:

1)Water Control: Used in water exploration, drainage, and aquifer depressurization operations to discharge water from boreholes.

2)Firefighting: Serves as a key component of the underground firefighting system, providing high-pressure water for fire lines.

3)Emergency Rescue: In the event of a water inrush accident, large-flow centrifugal pumps (including large submersible pumps or horizontal centrifugal pumps on the surface) are quickly deployed for forced drainage, which is a critical rescue measure.

4.Coal Washing and Water Supply:

1)Surface Applications: In coal preparation plants, used for process water circulation, slurry transportation, flotation reagent addition, etc.

2)Underground Water Supply: Provides pressurized water for underground spray dust suppression and coal seam infusion.

Common Types of Centrifugal Pumps:

1))Multistage Split-Case Centrifugal Pumps (e.g., Type D, MD): The most widely used type because they can achieve very high single-pump heads, making them ideal for deep mine drainage.

2)Abrasion-Resistant Centrifugal Pumps: Used to transport sewage containing a large amount of solid particles like coal powder and rock powder. The flow-through components are made of wear-resistant materials (such as high-chromium iron).

3)Explosion-Proof Centrifugal Pumps: All motors and equipment operating underground must meet explosion-proof requirements to prevent electrical sparks from igniting gas or coal dust explosions.
