Application of 2BV Water Ring Vacuum Pump in Starch Processing and Starch Product Industry
2026-09-15 14:001. Process Positioning in the Industry
The 2BV water ring vacuum pump acts as the core vacuum source for vacuum dewatering, concentration and degassing processes in corn, potato, cassava and sweet potato starch production lines. It is suitable for production lines of deep-processed starch, vermicelli, noodles, modified starch, starch sugar and other starch products.
Featuring isothermal compression, capability to pump gas containing water vapor, tolerance to a small amount of starch dust and zero oil contamination, this pump meets sanitary requirements for food processing. It is the mainstream vacuum equipment in starch plants.
2. Core Application Scenarios in Production Lines
Vacuum Drum Dewatering (Primary Application)
Starch milk has a high moisture content after cyclone refining and requires dewatering by vacuum drum filter. The 2BV pump creates stable negative pressure (-0.04~-0.09MPa) inside the drum. Starch slurry adheres to the drum filter cloth, and free moisture is extracted under negative pressure to form starch filter cake. After dewatering, the moisture content of starch drops to approximately 40%, greatly reducing energy consumption for subsequent air-flow drying. Application: Main production lines for potato starch, sweet potato starch and corn starch.
Vacuum Concentration of Starch Slurry
Negative-pressure low-temperature concentration is applied to refined starch milk to reduce liquid volume and cut evaporation energy consumption. The vacuum environment lowers the boiling point of liquid to prevent starch gelatinization under high temperature and guarantee starch quality.
Vacuum Degassing
Remove air bubbles from starch milk, starch sugar and modified starch feed liquid. Eliminating trapped air inside slurry improves filtration and separation performance, enhances the gloss of finished starch and avoids defects such as pores and delamination in products.
Vacuum Forming / Vacuum Packaging of Starch Products
Vacuum extrusion forming for vermicelli, noodles and instant starch products; vacuum pumping procedure for finished starch and pre-packaged starch food.
Auxiliary Process: Priming of Equipment
Vacuum priming for centrifugal pumps and feed pumps on production lines, ensuring fast feeding of starch slurry transfer pumps and preventing cavitation.
3. Advantages of 2BV Pump for Starch Industry
Tolerant to wet gas, suitable for high water vapor conditions Massive water vapor is generated during starch dewatering. The water ring pump can directly pump water-gas mixture and will not be damaged by water vapor unlike dry vacuum pumps.
Isothermal compression, safe for food processes The temperature rise during gas compression is small. No local high temperature occurs to cause starch gelatinization, with no fire risk, making it suitable for food production lines.
Tolerant to minor dust with strong fault tolerance A small amount of starch dust entering the pump with airflow can be washed away by working water, so the pump is not easy to jam. A pre-mounted gas-water separator plus filter can further protect the pump body.
Oil-free structure to avoid oil contamination of materials Oil-free lubrication prevents oil from mixing into starch products and satisfies sanitary requirements of food production.
Compact direct-coupled design for easy maintenance The 2BV pump adopts coaxial direct connection between pump and motor with small footprint. Equipped with mechanical seal and widely available spare parts, it is convenient for on-site maintenance in starch factories.
Optional material grades 304/316 stainless steel impeller and pump casing are available to meet food-grade anti-corrosion requirements; ordinary cast iron version is used for auxiliary vacuum in non-food downstream processes.
4. Complete Supporting System
Components of the whole vacuum system:
2BV water ring vacuum pump main unit + motor
Gas-water separator (gas-water separation, filtrate recovery, pump protection)
Pre-filter / dust trap (intercept fine starch powder to prevent entering pump cavity)
Vacuum pipeline, vacuum pressure gauge, check valve, circulating water tank
Model Selection Reference: Based on the area of vacuum drum filter, commonly used models are 2BV5110, 2BV5111, 2BV5121. Multiple pumps can be operated in parallel for large-scale starch production lines.
5. Operation & Maintenance Key Points (Highlights for Starch Plants)
The pre-dust trap must be cleaned regularly. Accumulated fine starch powder may block pipelines and abrade impellers.
Clean process water is recommended as circulating water to prevent scaling, which will reduce vacuum degree.
Keep flushing the pump cavity with running water before shutdown to avoid starch precipitation and solidification inside the pump.
Drain residual water inside the pump after shutdown in low-temperature environment to prevent pump cracking caused by freezing.
